FORMER EMPLOYEE SUES WORLDCOM FOR DEFAMATION
‘I lost my homes, my kids, and now I face financial ruin
following a wrongful allegation of theft by WorldCom’
A former employee of WorldCom and world renowned
Electrical and Communications Engineer has issued a Claim at the
Royal Courts of Justice in London against WorldCom the troubled
telecommunications giant. The Claim was issued on the 27th of August
2002 at the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court by Pedro
Emmanuel Solicitors a Mayfair based firm on behalf of the Claimant,
Mr Anthony Woodruffe. The Claim Number is HQ02X02820.
In the Particulars of Claim, Mr Anthony
Woodruffe claims that he has been ruined financially by being
wrongly accused of theft by WorldCom. The false accusation of
stealing a laptop computer was made to the Reading Police, and
Woodruffe’s agency Drax Generation, a member of Jobserve. His
marriage of 4 years also broke down. Broke and penniless, he lost
his 3 homes, his wife, lost custody of his children and he is now on
the dole.
Prior to the publication of the defamatory words by WorldCom, the
Claimant had received 4 years of uninterrupted work via the agency
Jobserve. Indeed the Claimant was so busy over the said period that
he turned down work. However, following the said publication, the
Claimant has been
unable to secure any contracts despite making an average of 2
applications per week.
He worked with WorldCom between October 2000
and January 2001 as an NMS Design Consultant. In this role he worked
as part of a team which selected and implemented Networking Managing
Systems for SDH and Transport within the their European operations.
Highly skilled and experienced, prior to working with WorldCom
Woodruffe worked with Marconi Communications from April 2000 to
September 2000 as an NMS System Test Engineer; Motorola NSS Limited
from February 2000 to March 2000 as a
SDH Consultant; GTS from
May 1999 to February 2000 as a
Network Controller, Esprit Telecom from November 1998 to May
1999 as a Network Controller;
Ericsson Telecom from June 1998 to November 1998 as an SDH
and HP-UX Support Engineer; 4 Front Services Limited from February
1998 to May 1998 as a Sun and Unix Support Engineer; Delta Computers
(Eygpt) from September 1997 to January 1998 as a System
Administrator; AT&T (USA) from March 1997 to September 1997 as an
SDH Test Engineer to mention a few.
Mr Woodruffe has been involved in the following special projects:

1993 -
Six weeks in Mexico (Mexico city), building the first working TN-1X
ring to be demonstrated to TELMEX, and the training of 12 TELMEX
Engineers.

1993 -
Ten days in Slovakia, installed and tested the first Element Manager
to control the country's TN-1X Network for ST-SLOVAKIA.
·
1994 -
Five days at Mercury One-2-One, installed an SDH Test network to be
trailed by Mercury. Half day training plus 3 months Technical
Support.
·
1994 -
Four weeks at Energis, installed and networked a Large number of TN-MS
1.5X and TN-MS 1.4L Element Managers. Proved comms to the headend
Mux, to control the Super Highway. Support to Energis H/W & S/W,
TN-1X & TN-16L.
·
1996 -
Project Managed the TN-MS upgrade at BCM From SUN to HP.

The scope of telecommunications engineering where Mr Woodruffe has
specialised is a niche area where everybody knows each other. All
the agency jobs go through JobServe, and the slightest adverse
remark can have drastic consequences.
Mr Woodruffe says ‘I have been brought into public scandal, odium
and contempt by the publication of the defamatory statements by the
Defendants and I expect to receive at least £2 million pounds from
WorldCom as aggravated and exemplary damages for injury to my
character, credit and reputation’.
The Defendants have instructed City firm DLA who have filed an
acknowledgement of service on their behalf. The Defendants are yet
to file their Defence.
